American Anthropological Association Meetings 2017, Washington DC

I enjoyed the chance to present different kinds of work at this year's American Anthropological Association meetings. I was excited to deliver a paper on a dream panel titled "Reproductive Politics in the Age of Trump and Brexit" with Sarah Franklin, Carolyn Sufrin, Dana-Ain Davis, Elise Andaya, and Alyshia Galvez, organized by Faye Ginsburg, Sarah Franklin, and Rayna Rapp. My paper "Familiar Grammars: Keywords in Reproductive Politics Under Trump" examined discourses of saving among pro-life Christian nationalists as a lens for understanding the seamless collaboration of antiabortion politics and border policing in today's political climate. Many panelists commented on the Jane Doe case of a pregnant migrating minor from Central America in US custody facing governmental obstruction in obtaining an abortion.  Over lunch we made plans to submit these papers for publication -- stay tuned!

Also I represented the Council on Anthropology & Reproduction on the "Health, Care, and Well-being in Trump’s America" roundtable featuring Special Interest Groups (SIGs) from the Society for Medical Anthropology (SMA).
